President of the Government of Southern Sudan (GoSS) Salva Kiir (in hat) and Vice President of GoSS Riek Machar along with other senior ministers bid farewell to President Bashir's delegation before they depart to Khartoum. President Bashir visited Juba 5 days before the start of the long-awaited Southern Sudan referendum on self-determination.  During the visit President Bashir discussed preparations for the plebiscite and other outstanding issues with his counterparts in the Government of Southern Sudan.

Government of Southern Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit speaks to the press after casting his ballot. Southern Sudanese voters turned out in huge numbers on the first day of polling in the long-awaited Southern Sudan self-determination referendum.
